Set a time-out option If you will scold your kid for using cell phone, they will find a way to fidget with your phones when you least expect them to, speak to your child and decide to spend a certain hour for using smart-phone, set passwords and time out option it will not only take them away from cell-phone but provide an opportunity to connect more with your kids and spend quality time with them.
  3. Awareness Alert them about over usage of cell phones Children have delicate minds, they easily grab whatever they see on phones. Help them be aware about the usage of cell phones. Tell them by describing in detail about the health and mental hazards of too much smart phone usage. This will work immensely to thwart them from overusing using phones.

They are bound to emulate this habit just as they learn language and manners. Set an example to not use phone too much in front of children. When your profession demands high usage of cell phones, do that in an alone space or when your kids are out to play or busy with their own activities.

The first mark our child makes on paper is a surprise. To make them learn writing skills they need  both interesting and visually appealling things that excite them. In this way, accustom their arm muscles to the pressure they apply on the surface with chalk. Once they start liking it, give them a box of colourful crayons to start their writing journey.
  2. Make a Pencil Grip A pencil grip can help child to learn how to hold pencil and create marks. Children have soft fingertips that need to get adapted to hard surfaces of a pencil. We can wrap a cotton cloth or clay around a pencil and help children get a grip on the pencils with their fingers easily. Don’t bother how our child is holding the pencil, just make them comfortable by exploring various options in which they use to choose their grip.
  3. Colouring Books Give your child colouring books in which they can use colour on various pictures and shapes with colours of their choice. This process gives them idea of outline. They will also learn to grip pencils and crayons easily. The clearer and more precise they colour and outline the pictures the better they advance towards writing their first alphabet. Do allow them to scribble as much as they like in the beginning. It is a part of the process on the way to writing nicely.
  4. Tracing After child gets comfortable with pencil grip, help them to trace alphabets, by giving them writing and tracing alphabet books. Start with bigger tracing so as to allow free movement of your child’s wrists and fingers. Gradually, reduce the size of the alphabets for advanced hand movement. While regular practicing they can easily write alphabets. To check the gap between multiple alphabets if they are writing by keeping a uniform space between multiple letters, they trace alphabet, introduce to them two and three letter words.
  5. Word and Sentences After children develop writing skills, help them to identify the words by hearing them and writing them without helping them. These will help them in learning spelling along with writing. Their effort to learn spelling as per their understanding will help them to develop a sense of identifying spelling. Be patient and calm as a child learns words and sentences at the age of 5–6 yrs. Gradually to scribbling few sentences, by continuous practice. They easily learn writing and enjoy the process.

You get a chance to relive your life while helping them discover theirs. The road is full of fun challenges, enlightening experiences, and adventure. It is you and the kid taking on the world & in adapting new skills and technologies altogether.
  1. Home Schooled Kids are weaker in Academics: - It is not at all true as one of the prominent reason to opt for home schooling is it gives tailored teaching experience for your child with lots of hands-on activities that help your child go extra mile and make learning more helpful and easier.
  1. Real Learning experience is challenging or difficult for kid: - Home-educated children go on to do some amazing work. The 'real world & real life experiences' is just as bright for them like it is for everyone else or like other non-home schooled kids. Now a days Colleges are increasingly welcoming home schooled students, as they stand out among others with their own real life experiences. And their involvement in social activities and community causes is profound.
  1. It is not like home schooling is a lonely road where your kid is walking lonely, there are tons of other parents who are homeschooling their kids for their betterment & growth. They all help each other via online groups and forums, regular meetups, and co-op activities like museum visits, zoo trips, seminars etc. Home-educated children do well on all measures of social skills, emotional intelligence, and psychological well-being. The choice between homeschooling and traditional schooling is highly subjective. There is no one who understand kids better than a parent. You give them the best they deserve, and they shine above all odds.

Online Pre-school is the best option for your child!

Online Pre-school is the best option for your child!

Vijay, a usual 3-year-old did not seem very happy going to pre-school every day. His mother found it very difficult to wake him up every morning and take him to school.

One day, the unimaginable happened- a pandemic engulfed the world and pre-schools were the first to shut down. The physical school was replaced with online classes. Vijay, the lazy little boy was more than happy to attend online school. All his fears were dealt with and he enjoyed animated videos and sessions from the comfort of his home.

Vijay’s story is not the only one. Many children have benefitted much more from online pre-school rather than physical pre-school. There are numerous reasons why your child should opt for online pre-school.

  • Stress- Many countries start formal education only after the age of 6. Sending a 3-year-old to formal pre-school increases the stress levels among tiny tods and suppresses their growth hormones. Many children develop emotional problems and anxiety. Separation anxiety at this age is not at all beneficial. Online pre-school attended at home will allow your child to learn and grow in a comfortable environment without any stress.
  • Pace & flexibility- Every child is unique and pre-school children are at a tender development stage. Pre-schools with a high number of students in each class simply aim at finishing the curriculum rather than harnessing their inabilities and dealing with their shortcomings. While online sessions enable parents/guardians to monitor their child’s progress and observe their shortcomings. Online classes have few children and teachers can spare time to help each child in their area of requirements.
  • Lesser fees, better quality- Since online classes don’t have to bear the cost of rent, transportation, and other infrastructural requirements- the cost decreases. Good quality online pre-schools like Purple Turtle Online Pre-School have researched, tested, and developed curriculums, experienced teachers, animated videos, and learning aids that provide quality online education.
  • Accessibility- For those living in places where they can not find a good pre-school, a quality online pre-school is accessible from any part of the country. Therefore, rather than compromising on the quality of your child’s early years of learning is better to opt for a good online pre-school.
  • Better support system- At pre-school age, nobody understands a child better than the own parents/family. A 3- or 5-year-old can’t express their problems like pain in the stomach, uncomfortableness, or incomplete sleep at night. Parents are the only ones who can identify these problems easily. With online preschool, parents can sort their children’s discomforts and ensure that quality learning happens. Therefore learning becomes a collective process with both parents' and teachers’ involvement.

A pre-school child will learn better at home, where he/she is surrounded with familiar faces, feels emotionally secure, and doesn’t have to deal with fear at such a young age.

We generally don’t take a child’s fears seriously and bundle them up to school. But if you see no progress and development in yourchild it's most probably separation fear and anxiety that disables a pre-school child from learning. This fear can cause a major hindrance to your child's academic and physical growth. It can slow the progress of your child in higher classes.

Choose a quality online pre-school and watch your child bloom into a happy and intelligent child right in front of your eyes.

Understand the importance of ‘Sight -Reading’ for preschoolers.

Understand the importance of ‘Sight -Reading’ for preschoolers.

There are methods to everything in life, similarly with reading. Introducing your preschooler to sight-reading is a great way to enhance their reading ability.

What is sight-reading?

The ability to read by recognising the word rather than breaking them up phonetically.

Most of us are surrounded with material that focuses on teaching children phonetics- the sounds of letters and joining them to make words. But you must have noticed that many words don’t add up with sounds. Some words are also tricky because they have confusing sounds. These words become sight words because they need to be recognised and remembered.

At the pre-primary level- common words that are used frequently and don’t have sounds or add up with sounds are -am, and, the, it, go, for, not, can, him, am, its, did, get,etc These are all sight words. They are also at times referred to as high-frequency words since they are used so frequently.

How do we develop sight-reading?

Simply by exposing your child to these words multiple times so that they get imprinted in the mind.

There are other ways too, sight words can be read aloud over and over again to a child so that they remember them.  Ask the child to write the words, use flashcards with bright letters so that the child remembers. Upper Kg or class 1 children can be given reading material that contains repetitive sight words and helpthe child to read until they can independently read sight words.

Don’t encourage your child to memorise all words, especially phonetically spelled words. Only words that can’t be decoded with the help of phonetics should be memorised. Making your child memorise every word will limit their vocabulary; the child won’t be able to read new words as they grow and the English language will be difficult to master.

When you notice your child reading ‘house’ as ‘horse’ or ‘made’ and ‘mad’ or vice/versa rectify it immediately by instructing your child to decode the phonetically spelled word using the letter-sound correspondence.

Therefore, your child should have a thorough understanding of phonics before memorising sight words. You will also notice that the number of sight words your child needs is much lesser after they have learned phonetics.

Using Graded Readers that have level-wise stories is a good way to ensure your child picks up sight words and phonetically formed words since these books have been specifically curated for pre-school learners. These books build up level wise with vocabulary, the complexity of grammar structures, and also by the number of sight words used.Purple Turtle Graded Readers is a product to depend on.

But the fact remains that over the years as we grow all words become sight words for a well-versed and well-read person.

Choose the right reading books for your child with the help of ATOS and Lexile Methodologies

Choose the right reading books for your child with the help of ATOS and Lexile Methodologies

Teaching young children to read easily is important for overall development. The market is full of books and publishers have ensured that every genre has been covered. But the challenge is to choose the correct book for your child. Bombarding young readers with stories or information that is beyond their understandability and grasping power will create disinterest and frustration. Thanks to research and development,ATOS and Lexile Methodologies help you decide which level of book to pick up for your child. Atos and Lexile assist you in choosing books. This is also crucial for schools and institutions that have to provide readingmaterial to children of various age groups. Also, before stocking your library do consider these scores of the book or carry out a task to evaluate the books. What exactly are ATOS and Lexile Methodologies? Taking into consideration the length of sentences + variation in the vocabulary used + the number of words+ average words in a sentence, theATOSscore is set. The level of understandability in the content is measured with the LEXILE method. One must not confuse easy vocabulary with understandability. A story may have a simple vocabulary and small sentences but the content can be complicated to understand. It is a method of measuring content just like we measure temperature, height, etc.Similarly, a student’s score on the Atos and Lexile scale can be assessed and the correct books will help them better their English language skills. So, it is very important to choose books that have been developed keeping in mind these grading levels. Purple Turtle Graded Readers – 3 levelsspread across 36 books have been developed following the ATOS and Lexile Methodologies. The books score1.5on the ATOS scale and 200Lon the Lexile methodology scale. This is the ideal level for pre-school children and develops the below skills that are essential for early learners. • Listening skills- The stories are age-appropriate and interesting. This contributes to a part of unconscious learning through visualisation. • Reading skills- Reading is one of the many ways tomaster a language. Since the story has been developed not only on creative lines but with the help of a methodology it is more effective. • Speaking skills- Finally, moving up gradually from level 1 to 3 will give a better understanding of the language and build confidence to speak. Purple Turtle Graded Readers are a great learning tool for all irrespective of age. Anyone wanting to learn and better their English language skills can make use of these books. Picking a story thatis beyond or below the readability levels or whichfails to match the interest levels of pre-school children can cause more harm than not reading at all. Matching readers with books are very important in a day and age where books are easily available ata low cost. The main aim is to instill a lifelong love for reading.

This Children’s Day give your child a unique gift- the gift of safety

As parents, we all guard our children, especially the younger ones. But have you ever given it a thought that a child needs safety while they are surfing the net too?

Yes, children as young as 3 years old need to be guarded against the ill effects of the internet.

The biggest threat for children between the age of 3 to 9 is usually exposure to inappropriate content.

While putting a child lock seems the easiest way it does not prevent the child from being exposed to mild but yet adult content. This applies especially while watching YouTube videos where children keep clicking on suggested videos etc.

Curiosity among older children that is above the age of 6 can also lead to exposure to inappropriate content. The voice options which children learn to use easily at an early age sometimes can be fatal to their growing minds.

So here are a few ways to safeguard your young bud.

  • Never let your child know the password to your phone or laptop/tab
  • If you wish to give your child a phone to use in an emergency, a simple phone is safer than a smartphone.
  • Set routines and timings to watch videos or play games.
  • Never let your child use the internet for long periods without adult supervision. Like taking an afternoon nap while your child is on the phone.
  • Check the history of apps like YouTube to keep a tab on what your child is watching or clicking on.
  • Keep the computer, phone, and tv in a common area where you can monitor the screen.
  • Install child filters and safety locks so that they are not exposed to pornography.
  • Around the age of 6 to 7 is the ideal time to teach your kids the threats of the internet. Talk to them about the dangers of sharing pictures, personal information, etc

Finally, the best way is to limit exposure to the internet or download and use apps that are children friendly like PurpleTurtleClub.

Indulge in real-time play and interaction, encourage them to make friends, and read good books.
